The Composers' Workshop at The Sherborne Summer School of Music (formerly The Canford Summer School of Music) was started by Malcolm Singer in 1986, and each year it proves to be inspiring for those who attend. The Composers' Workshop caters for composers of all ages and standards, including student composers from the music colleges and universities, as well as keen amateurs. The course is devoted to practical composition as well as the study of new music by leading composers. Participants will have the opportunity to hear their own music played in workshop, and those who play an instrument or sing will be able to test-run works by other participants.

The course will next run 3rd - 10th August 2014.

Malcolm Singer is Director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin School and a professor of Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has been commissioned both by the BBC Symphony Orchestra (Making Music) and the BBC Singers (Kaddish). His works include Rites and Rituals for the Sibelius Academy Orchestra in Helsinki, Dragons for children's choir and orchestra, and Elegy for violin solo written for Lord Menuhin.
